Welcome Message from the Teaching and Learning Conference Committee

It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to the 'Directions in Legal Education Conference 2018' organized by the Faculty of Law of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The conference will take place on June 1 and 2 2018 in Hong Kong - 'Asia's world city'. We are confident you will feel welcome and inspired by what we have to offer here.

This conference will provide a space to discuss our work as law teachers and how to better prepare students for the legal careers of the future. We aim to discuss new pedagogical approaches to embrace the shifting legal education landscape and provide meaningful reflection on the roles of teachers and learners.

We are bringing together educators from law schools across the globe alongside practitioners, students (past and present) and other interested stakeholders to share their experience and discuss common challenges and best practices in the field of legal education. The conference is a great opportunity to hear how others are meeting these challenges and thriving as legal educators in a changing education landscape.

We have a great line-up of speakers talking about a range of legal education issues. Their insights will provide a backdrop to the many conference panel sessions and presentations on offer. These sessions will involve a diverse group of leading figures that will give participants the chance to meet friends and colleagues from around the world and share your stories, inspirations and ideas. Together we will engage in lively, candid debate and explore some of the most pressing issues currently facing us.

During and after the program, please come and enjoy our spectacular city, home to some of the world's best cultural treats, architectures, parks and cuisine, deservedly known as the melting pot of the West and the East. It's worth staying on for a while, or coming over a little earlier. There will be a cocktail gathering on Friday evening.

We hope you will take full advantage of the many exciting attractions that Hong Kong has to offer and we are looking forward to your arrival in June.

The Organizing Committee,

Prof. Michael Lower, Mr. Mitchell Stocks, Prof. Steven Gallagher and Ms. Vivian Chen
