WELCOME MESSAGE

Welcome Message from the Teaching and Learning Conference Committee

It gives us great pleasure to invite you to participate in the Faculty of Law at the Chinese University of Hong Kong's inaugural Teaching and Learning Conference. The conference 'Directions in Legal Education' will take place on June 3 and 4 2016 in Hong Kong - 'Asia's world city'. This event also forms part of our Faculty's 10th anniversary and we welcome you to join us in our ongoing celebrations.

This conference will provide a platform to discuss prospects for future fulfilment of our roles as effective law teachers and the role of the legal profession in continuing to promote and implement legal education.

We are bringing together educators from law schools across the globe alongside practitioners, students (past and present) and interested stakeholders to share their experience and discuss common challenges and best practices in the field of legal education.

We aim to discuss how to embrace the shifting legal education landscape and provide meaningful reflection on the roles of teachers and learners.

Speakers include Prof. Paul Maharg (Australian National University), Prof. Jane Ching (Nottingham Trent University), and Dean Camille Cameron (Dalhousie University), whose insights will provide a backdrop to the many conference panel sessions and presentations on offer. These sessions will involve a diverse group of other leading figures with opportunities for friends (old and new) to engage in lively, candid debate and explore some of the most pressing issues currently facing us.

In addition, we intend to launch the Society for Law Teachers in Asia (SOLTA), set up to foster relationships between Asia and the rest of the world in the field of legal education. The first gathering to discuss SOLTA will take place on the first day of the conference. All are welcome to join in the discussion. More information to follow!

Finally, you will have the chance to enjoy spectacular Hong Kong, home to some of the world's best cultural treats and cuisine. There will be a cocktail gathering on Friday, and we especially encourage you to join our conference dinner on the Saturday evening.

We hope you will take full advantage of the many exciting attractions that Hong Kong has to offer and look forward to your arrival in June.
